Default How come my EAs won't attach to any chart?

    Hi everybody ...

Just discovered this forum. Boy, the material here is wonderful IMHO.

Have a problem, though, and maybe someone can help.
I have a few EAs that are running, both on demo and live. But lately whenever I try to run a new EA it will not attach to a chart. Doesn't seem to matter which chart and which MT4 broker. They just won't attach.

It's too bad bcos some of those EAs come highly rated.

    Am I doing something wrong?

    Thanks for the help.

    Hi bigeagle and welcome,

Try to open the EA with MetaEditor, compile it. Then restart the Metatrader terminal and attach the code to the chart. It should work.

    Hi and thanks, funyoo.

Well, I tried the Editor/compile trick without success.

I was trying it on the ACB1 Modified EA which I downloaded from here. Opened the MetaEditor and when I hit the Compile button it listed 142 errors. When I checked the files/folders under "experts" in my MT4 application I see no corresponding ex4 file although the log file is there listing all the errors.

Just wondering ... when I downloaded the original file the name contained a long serial number. I renamed that to something shorter for my benefit. Could that be the problem? I don't understand how these EAs actually work, codewise.

Come to think of it the commercial EAs for which I have paid and any commercial demos I have tried all work flawlessly. Only the free EAs give me trouble, though some are OK. Hmmm. I'm stumped.

Reload the EA from the board again, don't touch to the code. And it should work.
